What is it?

This vintage Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is such a fun little ride. Growing up, my best friend’s father had one and man was it comfortable. At first glance, it looks pretty fast. Turn the key to the 1200cc engine and your suspicion will quickly fade. From a design standpoint, this coupe is quite minimal. In fact, during the prototyping stage, it was rumored to be modeled off of the Chrysler d’Elegance. Despite the historical drama, this fun little ride offers its pilot and co-pilot a pleasant experience.

“Where in the World is Karmann Ghia?”

This particular vintage Karmann Ghia was spotted in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam somewhere in district 10. There is a growing community of car enthusiasts here and more recently Vietnam ratified a free trade deal with the European Union. This will certainly pave the way for international imports from European markets. It’s only a matter of time until we see some more beautiful four-wheel machines around South East Asia.

Lately, my walks around the city allow me to see just how diverse the vintage car community is. If there is one brand that I’ve seen the most it’s certainly the Citroen. I stumbled across one a couple of weeks back at the Continental Palace in district 1. In fact, it’s a place where many around the city meet to admire each other’s ride before setting off on an urban cruise.
